Apple event October 2021 - what are the expectations?

The last Apple event has just taken place, and the next one is already around the corner. Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed anywhere, there is a good chance that another Apple event will take place in October. There are still a few developments we know Apple is working on, but that have not yet been announced or given a release date. At the annual event this past September, the new iPhone was the main focus. Four different versions of the iPhone 13 were unveiled: the standard model, the Pro, the Pro Max, and the mini. In addition, attention was also given to the Apple Watch Series 7, the new iPad mini, and the ninth-generation iPad. But of course, Apple has more ongoing projects. Here’s what we expect from the October Apple event:

MacBook Pro

It is expected that two new MacBook Pro models will be announced in October: a 14-inch model and a 16-inch model. The 14-inch would be an upgrade from the MacBook Pro 13.3-inch, now featuring a larger screen and a new processor. The MacBook Pro 16-inch was also due for an update, with the last 16-inch model dating back to December 2019. These new models are expected to have Apple’s new in-house developed chip. This M1 chip is already present in the iMacs released this spring, but its successor, likely named the M2 or M1X chip, will now also be implemented in all new models. A notable detail is that these new MacBook Pros are likely to have more (thunderbolt) ports than previous models.

Mac mini

The Mac mini is also expected to get an update during this October event. The previous version already operates on Apple’s M1 chip, but soon you’ll be able to buy an even more powerful Mac mini. There are also rumors that the design of the Mac mini will be updated. The new Mac mini is rumored to be significantly thinner, with a plexiglass-look top. Additionally, the number of ports is expected to increase from two to four thunderbolt inputs.

AirPods

What everyone expected but didn’t happen at the last event was the announcement of new AirPods. The reason they weren’t announced is likely due to the Back to School promotion, which runs until October 11. With this promotion, you get free AirPods when you purchase a Mac or iPad for your studies. Announcing new AirPods could negatively affect this promotion, as people would likely wait for the new version. The new AirPods are expected to resemble the AirPods Pro, particularly in terms of comfort. On the other hand, there are also rumors that the new AirPods might not be announced during this event but later in the year through a press release. So, a little more waiting, but that way, the AirPods will still be available in time for the holiday season.

Release Dates

Lastly, expectations for the October Apple event include the announcement of release dates. These will be for the new macOS Monterey operating system and the Apple Watch Series 7. Both have been known about for some time, but no definitive date has been set. It is likely that macOS Monterey will be available as an update for all Macs in the week following the event. As for the Apple Watch Series 7, it was already announced during the September event, but without a release date. It has now been revealed via a press release that the Apple Watch Series 7 will be available for pre-order starting October 8 and will hit stores on October 15, 2021.

Of course, all of this is speculation, and nothing can be guaranteed.
